With a team of 550 employees and growing, we currently operate over 50 school age care and early years education services across Catholic schools in the Greater Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains region.
Job Description
The role is responsible for leading and representing the organisation's commitment to safeguarding the safety, wellbeing and rights of adults, young people and children. The Safeguarding Advisor plays a central role in supporting a culture where everyone is safe, respected, heard and protected from harm, and where safeguarding is understood as a shared responsibility embedded in everyday practice.
The role plays a key role in embedding and monitoring compliance with NSW legislation, Child Safe Standards, upholding the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and translating these into practical, child-centred policies, procedures, and everyday practice.
The role supports the organisation to move beyond compliance, actively promoting a people safe culture that prioritises rights based, ethical and inclusive approaches to safeguarding across all programs, services and workplaces.
Operating within a collaborative governance and reporting framework, the Safeguarding Advisor provides specialist advice and guidance to senior leadership and operational team members at all levels.
Desired Skills and Experience
Relevant tertiary qualifications
A minimum of 3 years' safeguarding experience
Demonstrated experience in a multi-site education sector setting (advantageous)
Strong knowledge of Safeguarding legislation including early childhood legislation and learning and quality frameworks
Demonstrated ability to apply relevant NSW legislation to safeguarding matters
Experience and involvement with Safeguarding investigation matters
Experience in investigations
Experience in developing and delivering training initiatives (face to face and virtual)
Experience in developing and implementing policies and guidelines
Prior operational experience in a leadership position within childcare industry (advantageous)
Proficiency in Microsoft 365
Current Driver's License
Valid Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
National and/or International Police Check
Demonstrated understanding of NSW safeguarding and related legislative frameworks
Strong emotional intelligence with ability to remain calm, impartial and respectful when responding to sensitive safeguarding matters
High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive, personal and confidential information
Ability to quickly establish trusted and respectful relationships with wide range of stakeholders
Strong capacity to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity
Commitment to continuous professional development
Strong working knowledge of organisational compliance, assurance and risk management principles
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently, use initiative and make timely, proportionate and ethically sound decisions
High attention to detail with ability to manage complex information and maintain accurate records
Strong time management and organisational skills
